Ghana Aerogrammes Detailed Listing

Previously known as Gold Coast, Ghana became an independent country on March 6, 1957. The first aerogramme imprinted "Ghana" was not issued until October 5, 1959. During these first 2 1/2 years, aerogrammes of Gold Coast were overprinted "Ghana Independence 6th March 1957" or locally handstamped "GHANA" or both.

This listing draws heavily on both the EAPC "Katalog der Aerogramme von Afrika 1995" and Kessler's "Catalog of Aerograms", Volumes 1 and 3. In order to provide as consistent a listing as possible, the assigned catalog numbers are as close to those of the EAPC catalog as possible. Thanks to the many individuals who contributed to both catalogs.

We also wish to express heartfelt appreciation to those contributors who have helped with this listing:
Ian Anderson, Luc Jacquemin, Alfred Little, Alfred Roggenkamper
